UPDATE: Bligh Park FC’s U15 Girls team has made sporting history by clinching the Division 1 Grand Final title in a thrilling match against Penrith Rovers, securing a 2-1 victory on September 7, 2024, at Jamison Park. This remarkable achievement comes in their very first year competing at the top division, capping off an extraordinary season where they also finished atop the competition ladder.

The match was a nail-biter, with fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. Bligh Park’s win not only signifies their dominance in the league but also marks the third consecutive year they have won both the league title and the Grand Final. Coach Sally Roberts praised her team’s defensive resilience and strong camaraderie as the driving forces behind their success.

“Building a strong defensive line has been our strategy, and it has paid off,” said Roberts. “This season, we’ve had the fewest goals scored against us, and the majority of play has occurred in our attacking half. But beyond tactics, the friendship among the girls has been crucial. They play hard, not only for themselves but for each other.”

Team captain Taylor Roberts expressed her mixed emotions before the game, saying, “I felt nervous, but also really excited. Winning a grand final is an amazing feeling, especially doing it with such great friends.”

Striker Eden Falkenmire highlighted the unity within the squad, stating, “It shows that we’re a team who trusts each other, works hard together, and isn’t afraid to take risks.” Goalkeeper Emily Dawson echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of their victory: “This win reflects all the hard work we’ve put in, and now other teams know we’re a side to be reckoned with.”

Right winger Amelia Kent captured the team’s spirit, declaring, “Winning feels absolutely amazing, especially doing it for the third year in a row! Our next goal? Keep winning!”

Following their Grand Final triumph, the Bligh Park team represented Hawkesbury in the prestigious NSW Champion of Champions tournament, facing Mount Annan Mustangs FC on September 22, 2024. The match was intense, with Bligh Park dominating possession and shots on goal. However, after finishing full time at a stalemate of 0-0 and enduring 20 minutes of golden goal extra time, the contest was ultimately decided by penalties, where they fell 4-2 to the Mustangs.

Despite this heartbreaking loss, the Bligh Park girls concluded their season with an impressive record: winning the competition, claiming the Grand Final title, reaching the final of the Nepean Cup, and competing at the Champion of Champions—all in their inaugural year in Division 1.

The proud champions roster includes: Maddison Rawling, Taylor Roberts, Mela Sutton, Emily Dawson, Zahlia Baldacchino, Eden Falkenmire, Piper Straub, Hannah Salt, Amelia Kent, Charlize Sherry, Mariah Saliba, Indigo Kenny, and Natalia Sherry. The team is coached by Sally Roberts and managed by Rebecca Dawson.

For the Bligh Park FC community, these achievements are not just victories but a testament to resilience, friendship, and sporting excellence. The team’s journey continues to inspire young athletes and supporters alike.
