BREAKING NEWS: Brisbane has just been crowned Australia’s top sports city and ranked 20th globally in the latest 2025 Ranking of Sports Cities released by Burson, a leading global consultancy. This significant achievement highlights Brisbane’s rise as a premier sporting destination, surpassing major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast.

Events like the NRL Magic Round and Queen’s Wharf’s “Fan Land” have propelled Brisbane’s standing, showcasing its vibrant sports culture. The city previously ranked 15th in 2023, indicating a remarkable growth trajectory as it gears up for the upcoming 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Juliet Alabaster, chief operating officer of the Brisbane Economic Development Agency, remarked, “Over the past 10 years, Brisbane’s sporting and cultural sectors have experienced remarkable growth of 76 percent – and momentum is still building.”

In a separate development, Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner announced plans to activate eight pontoons along the Brisbane River for potential water taxi services. This initiative is pending state government approval and aims to enhance tourism and hospitality options in the area. The proposed pontoons include hubs at Dutton Park and New Park Park, which are currently underutilized.

The concept of water taxis has been discussed for years, with previous attempts to launch services stalling due to regulatory hurdles. The council has previously allocated $8 million to improve river hubs for tourism-related activities.

In other urgent news, a fire at Caboolture Tyres & More has left one person seriously injured. The blaze started just before 1 PM on Tuesday, causing extensive damage to vehicles and property. A man, believed to be the manager, suffered severe burns and was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Initial reports indicated his condition was life-threatening, but it has since improved.

As Brisbane basks in its sporting glory, the city is also set to enjoy warm weather today, with temperatures hitting a high of 29 degrees. While showers may develop later, they are not expected to linger, paving the way for sunny conditions by Thursday.

Stay tuned for more updates on Brisbane’s sporting achievements and the potential launch of water taxi services, as these developments continue to unfold.
