URGENT UPDATE: CDHBU has officially welcomed a wave of new talent as the club gears up for the upcoming season, featuring four promising teenagers, including Jay Lavis and Benji Hanrahan, whose family names are deeply rooted in the club’s history. This significant move aims to inject fresh energy into the team and foster the next generation of players.

Just announced, Lavis, a standout from last season at Corowa-Rutherglen, joins the ranks of the Power alongside Isaac Dickinson and Ashton Wynne. Lavis, who won the club’s best and fairest award in his previous season, is the son of Doug Lavis, a beloved figure at CDHBU with over 300 senior games and a history of dominating goalkicking.

Kyle Docherty, co-coach of CDHBU, expressed excitement over the new signings, emphasizing the impact these young players will have on the squad. “It’s always nice to get some young blood into the group, especially with connections to the club’s legacy,” Docherty stated. “We won’t put any huge expectations on what they can achieve right away, but we’re eager to see them grow.”

In addition to Lavis, Benji Hanrahan, the brother of current player Ethan Hanrahan, joins the club, continuing a family tradition of excellence. The duo brings the legacy of their father, Jarrod ‘Chalky’ Hanrahan, who coached the club to consecutive premierships in 2006-2007.

CDHBU is also thrilled about Isaac Dickinson, who served as captain for Corowa-Rutherglen’s thirds last season and is seen as a key forward prospect. Ashton Wynne completes the youthful intake, adding depth to the team. Docherty noted that all four players are excited to gain senior experience and play alongside their friends.

In a further boost, Dan Gormley, a recent recruit from the MPNFL, has recommitted for another season. “It’s great to have Dan back on board. He loves the club, and the club loves him,” Docherty remarked. Gormley’s dedication reflects the spirit of the team and its community.

However, the club faces challenges with notable departures. Dean Waugh, Jon Ristrom, and Rohan Heasley will not return from Mornington, alongside star midfielder Jimmy Hanrahan, who signed with Yarrawonga before Christmas. Additionally, dual best and fairest winner Cal Butler is likely to retire, leaving the team to adapt.

Docherty confirmed, “Cal informed us late last year about his potential retirement. We respect his decision and will reunite with him before the season starts to see if he has changed his mind.” If Butler does retire, Ollie Collins, who played extensively last season, will step into the ruck position. The team also has Jake Beveridge, last season’s reserves league best and fairest, to provide additional options.

In a positive development, Jordy Lavis is making significant progress in his recovery from a torn ACL and could be back on the field as soon as Round 1, bolstering the club’s key position options. This news adds an extra layer of anticipation as the Power prepares for the season ahead.

With these urgent developments, CDHBU is set for an exciting season filled with potential and the promise of youth. Fans and supporters are encouraged to stay tuned for more updates as the team prepares to kick off!
