URGENT UPDATE: Marion Dreyer has been officially named the 2023 Central Coast Community Champion, recognizing her exceptional dedication to her community. This announcement comes as part of an initiative to honor individuals making significant impacts through their volunteer work.

Dreyer, who has served as club captain of the Ettalong Pelicans Masters Swimming Club for over seven years, is celebrated for her caring and compassionate nature. Under her leadership, the club has thrived, promoting not only competitive swimming but also social engagement among diverse age groups.

In her role, Dreyer encourages individuals of all ages to embrace swimming as a means of fitness and social connection. “I am a slow swimmer,” Dreyer stated. “It’s not just about swimming; it’s the social side and keeping fit. It’s given me a whole lifestyle.”

Remarkably, Dreyer only learned to swim in her late 40s, yet she has since achieved personal milestones, including winning bronze in the Open Waters Swim at the 2014 Rockhampton Masters Championships in the 65-69 age group.

In 2022, after the disruption caused by COVID-19, she led a remarkable team of 23 swimmers aged 25-76 to a prestigious seventh place finish out of 84 teams at the Masters Swimming Championships held at the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre. This achievement marked the club’s most successful result in years.

Dreyer’s unwavering commitment to fostering inclusivity is evident. She organizes social activities aimed at connecting individuals who may benefit from community engagement, showcasing her quiet energy and enthusiasm.

Central Coast Mayor Lawrie McKinna expressed profound gratitude for Dreyer’s contributions, stating, “Our Central Coast Community Champion initiative honors people who, through exceptional effort and commitment, make a difference to the lives of others. Marion’s motto is ‘never say never and give it a go.’ I’m sure you’ll agree she’s a very worthy Community Champion.”

Dreyer has also recently been awarded life membership of the Ettalong Pelicans for her long-term commitment and dedication to the club. This recognition solidifies her legacy and impact within the community.

As the community celebrates this honor, Dreyer’s story serves as an inspiration for many, illustrating the powerful influence one individual can have in uplifting the lives of others.
