UPDATE: The Brisbane Water Oyster Festival kicks off this weekend, celebrating its 25th anniversary on October 14, 2023, in Woy Woy, Central Coast. The festival, known for its vibrant atmosphere and culinary delights, promises to be a major draw for thousands of visitors, delivering a significant boost to the local economy.
Chamber President Matthew Wales emphasized the festival’s importance, stating, “We are very proud to have provided this iconic community event for 25 years.” He highlighted the festival’s humble beginnings at the Woy Woy waterfront in 2000, marking its evolution into one of the longest-running events on the Central Coast.
This year, the festival welcomes back its Naming Sponsor, Deepwater Plaza Woy Woy, a cornerstone of the community for over 40 years. Wales noted, “Deepwater Plaza provides valuable retail services and supports hundreds of jobs for local families.” The partnership underscores the significant role local businesses play in the event’s success.
The festival will feature over 100 stalls, showcasing delicious food, chilled wines, and cocktails, alongside the famous Sydney Rocks oyster farmers. This year’s entertainment kicks off at 10:00 AM with live performances from Jellybean Jam, followed by Swift Kick, bringing ’60s rock ‘n’ roll, boogie woogie, blues, and swing to the stage.
Wales also announced a fun contest: “We are calling for contestants for the ‘How Many Oysters Can You Eat in 30 Seconds.’” Last year’s winner devoured an impressive 32 oysters. Interested participants can register on the day of the event.
The festival not only celebrates local culture but also highlights the community’s resilience and spirit. “We hope more local businesses take the opportunity to support the Oyster Festival and showcase their own offerings,” Wales urged.
Parking is available at the rail station commuter carpark and adjacent council carpark, with a shuttle bus service from Deepwater Plaza to key locations including the rail station, the wharf, and Lions Park.
The Central Coast Council has been a strong supporter of the festival, ensuring its ongoing success and community engagement. For more information, visit the Brisbane Water Oyster Festival’s Facebook page or contact PWP Events.
