UPDATE: The City of Karratha has just announced the allocation of $195,615 in community grants to local organizations, making significant funding available for vital programs and events this financial year. Among the recipients are the Karratha Kangaroos Junior Rugby League, Northern Swimming Association, and RSPCA, all set to benefit from this essential support as they gear up for community-focused initiatives.

This funding, provided through the council’s Large Community Grant Scheme, will empower local groups to host key events including the Kangaroos’ gala day and Anzac match, alongside the upcoming 2026 Belt Up Country Pennants swimming event. The RSPCA will also utilize their share for a community action day, enhancing local engagement.

The Baynton West Primary School P&C has received $50,000 specifically aimed at upgrading the school’s playground, while the Karratha Basketball Association will allocate $23,760 towards a mental wellbeing and resilience course for players, coaches, and referees—an initiative that underscores the importance of mental health in sports.

With a total annual budget of $600,000 for the grant scheme, the council still has $302,885 available for future funding rounds, following this recent distribution. Despite the positive outcomes, two organizations, Karratha Community House and the Hindu Association of Pilbara, were not awarded funding in this round. Karratha Community House sought $16,073 for safety upgrades, while the Hindu Association requested $49,987 for their 2026 arts and culture festival.

Officials noted that while all proposals were commendable, the two projects did not meet specific guidelines or required further planning and approvals. The council has committed to assisting these organizations in future applications, aiming to strengthen community initiatives across Karratha.

As the city continues to prioritize community development, these grants underscore a vital investment in local programs that enrich lives and foster engagement. With more funding opportunities on the horizon, local groups are encouraged to prepare for the next application round.

Stay tuned for more updates on community funding and initiatives in Karratha as they unfold.
