cumbalum-man-arrested-in-online-child-grooming-operation

UPDATE: A 64-year-old man from Cumbalum, New South Wales, has been arrested for allegedly attempting to groom a child online, following a sting operation by the NSW Sex Crimes Squad. The arrest took place at approximately 7:15 AM on November 3, 2025, as part of ongoing investigations under Strike Force Trawler.

Authorities confirm that detectives from the Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) posed as an adult woman with a young daughter to engage with the accused. During the operation, the detectives uncovered sexually explicit conversations initiated by the man, revealing disturbing intentions towards a child.

The investigation began in October 2025, focusing on the online activities of the suspect. The swift action by law enforcement highlights the urgent need to combat child exploitation in digital spaces, as predators increasingly use the internet to target vulnerable children.

Upon his arrest, the man was taken to Ballina Police Station, where he was charged with using a carriage service to groom a child. He was subsequently denied bail and appeared in the Bail Division Local Court. His next court date is set for Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the Ballina Local Court.

This operation serves as a stark reminder of the risks children face online and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to safeguard them. Authorities urge parents to remain vigilant and monitor their children’s online interactions.
