URGENT UPDATE: A powerful new documentary and musical performance will spotlight the profound experiences of Vietnamese settlers in Australia over the past 50 years. The event, free to the public, is set to take place on November 29, 2023, at the Bowery Theatre in St Albans.

The documentary, titled ‘Our Brimbank – A Half-Century Home’, produced by Australian Vietnamese Arts and Culture (AVAC), reveals the harrowing personal stories of local Vietnamese residents. Viewers will witness firsthand accounts of migration, revealing the life-and-death struggles faced by many as they fled their homeland.

AVAC President Mai Nguyen emphasized the urgency of these narratives, stating, “…from running away from their own country, to being in the middle of life and death at the ocean via the little boats.” She highlighted the stark contrast between those who survived and the countless others who tragically perished at sea.

The accompanying musical performance, ‘My Story, Our Story’, will further illustrate the community’s journey through performing arts. “AVAC is very happy and proud to present this documentary and the musical performance,” Nguyen added, underscoring the importance of preserving history and celebrating the contributions of the Vietnamese community to Australia.

This free event will run in two sessions: from 2 PM to 5 PM and again from 6 PM to 9 PM. The community is invited to come together to honor the resilience of Vietnamese Australians and their significant impact on the fabric of Australian society.
