UPDATE: The documentary “Bravery & Betrayal – The True Story of the SAS in Afghanistan” is set to screen again at Regent Cinemas in Albury on October 30, 2023, at 6:30 PM. This compelling film, which took five years to produce, reveals the untold stories of the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) during their deployment in Afghanistan.

This screening comes on the heels of a successful earlier tour and aims to raise funds for the veterans’ charity Wandering Warriors. Proceeds from ticket sales will directly support veterans and their families, making this not just a viewing, but a vital contribution to those who served.

Former SAS Commander Colonel Paul Burns, who grew up in Albury, is spearheading efforts to clarify the contributions of SAS troops amidst the fallout from the controversial Brereton Report. This inquiry scrutinized allegations of war crimes committed by Australian forces between 2005 and 2016, leaving many veterans feeling unfairly maligned.

Colonel Burns emphasized the need for Australians to appreciate the sacrifices made by SAS soldiers, stating, “The media assault on the war crime allegations meant that everyone was tarred with the same brush.” He is determined to shift the narrative and boost the pride of those who served.

The film is significant as it showcases the perspectives of over 30 veterans, political leaders, and family members, including exclusive interviews with three prime ministers who were in office during the war: Kevin Rudd, John Howard, and Tony Abbott. It also highlights the emotional toll on families, featuring insights from wives, mothers, and children of soldiers.

Colonel Burns urges the community to attend, stating, “This documentary will resonate with anyone who has a family connection to the defence force or who attends Anzac Day services.” He describes the film as powerful and emotional, capturing a human dimension often overlooked by the public.

Tickets are currently available on Eventbrite, with screenings also scheduled for October 30, 2023. Following each screening, a panel Q&A will allow attendees to engage directly with veterans and filmmakers, further enriching the experience.

As this documentary tours Australia, it serves as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifices made by our soldiers. Don’t miss the chance to witness this important narrative and support those who have served our nation.
