URGENT UPDATE: A renewed partnership between Driver Reviver Australia and insurance firm AAMI is set to enhance safety at Driver Reviver sites across the Pilbara and Kimberley regions. This critical collaboration aims to support motorists during the peak travel season, as road fatalities continue to rise alarmingly.

With over 150 Driver Reviver sites nationwide, including key locations like the Goldwire Rest Area and the Cockburn Rest Area, community volunteers will provide free refreshments while promoting essential fatigue management. This initiative comes at a time when road safety is more crucial than ever.

In a stark reminder of the dangers on Australian roads, 787 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents this year alone, a troubling 6.2% increase compared to last year. Stephen Griffin, chair of Driver Reviver Australia, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “In the 12 months ending June 2025, there were 1,340 lives lost on our roads.” This tragic statistic signifies profound loss for families and friends, particularly as holidays approach.

The partnership extension, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of their collaboration, is particularly timely as travel surges during holiday seasons. Many young drivers are expected to take to the roads for the first time after completing school, increasing the potential for fatigue-related incidents.

The regional road toll in Western Australia has already reached 63 fatalities as of August 29, contributing to a decade-high toll of 128 deaths. AAMI’s Chief Executive of Consumer Insurance, Lisa Harrison, stated, “With Driver Reviver, there is no excuse for driving tired on our roads.” She urges all motorists to take a 15-minute break every two hours, which can be vital for ensuring safe travels.

As holiday journeys approach, the importance of initiatives like Driver Reviver cannot be overstated. The collaboration aims not just to provide refreshments but to foster awareness around the critical need for regular breaks to combat fatigue—a leading factor in road accidents.

This partnership serves as a vital reminder for travelers: stay alert, take breaks, and ensure that you arrive alive. More updates are expected as the holiday season progresses, making it essential for all to stay informed and prepared.
