URGENT UPDATE: The Eaglehawk Recycle Centre has officially been saved as its management is now taken over by the City of Greater Bendigo. This transformation from the former Eaglehawk Recycle Shop aims to enhance recycling services for local residents.
According to Brian Westley, Director of City Presentation and Assets, the centre will function alongside other recycling facilities in Strathfieldsaye, Heathcote, and Goornong. Residents can currently dispose of various recyclable items for free at a drive-through drop-off point located at the entrance of the landfill site.
However, residents will need to wait until mid-November 2023 for the reopening of sales for second-hand and recycled goods. The centre is undergoing essential improvement and safety works to ensure a smooth shopping experience.
“We apologize for any inconvenience during this transition period,” stated Westley. “Upon reopening, customers can expect a wide selection of second-hand items at unbeatable prices.”
In the immediate term, the City has employed staff through an agency arrangement with Programmed, a leading provider of staffing solutions. This arrangement allows some existing staff from the former ERS to continue working at the facility.
Future job opportunities at the centre will be advertised through the City’s standard employment channels. Westley expressed gratitude for the years of service provided by ERS, emphasizing the commitment to welcoming both existing and new customers to the revitalized Eaglehawk Recycling Centre.
As this situation develops, residents are encouraged to stay informed about additional updates and the official reopening date. This initiative not only saves a valuable community resource but also reinforces the City’s commitment to sustainable waste management.
