Coach Jamie Bolger acknowledged the team’s struggle, stating, “Starting the season 0-3 isn’t great, but we’ve been in every game.” The Eagles, who finished at the bottom of the Johnstone Shield last season, remain in the same division this year for the opportunity to develop younger players. However, they are still searching for their first victory.
On Saturday, October 14, 2023, the Eagles faced off against the Lancefield Tigers, who were also seeking their first win. The Tigers won the toss and opted to bat, ending their innings at 8-159. Eagles bowler Josh Watson shone with four wickets, while Majid Khan contributed three wickets, demonstrating their bowling strength.
Despite this solid performance, the Eagles’ batting lineup faltered. Chasing a target of 160 runs, the team was bowled out for just 137 runs in the 42nd over. Iffyan Ghazni was the top scorer with 27 runs, highlighting the need for improvement from the top order.
Bolger emphasized the importance of bolstering their batting, stating, “It’s the key for us getting runs.
