UPDATE: An elderly driver has been hospitalized following a serious single-vehicle crash on the NSW Far South Coast at approximately 7:20 PM on August 7, 2023. Emergency services rushed to the scene on the Princes Highway near Wolumla, just south of Bega, after receiving urgent reports of the accident.

According to a spokesperson from NSW Police, the vehicle appears to have “come off the road,” indicating that no other vehicles were involved. Paramedics from NSW Ambulance transported the male driver, believed to be in his 70s, to South East Regional Hospital in Bega with reported shoulder injuries.

This incident follows another tragic event earlier the same day on the same highway. At approximately 11:15 AM, a multi-vehicle collision involving a utility, a car, and a truck occurred at Frogs Hollow, about 13 kilometers south of Bega. Unfortunately, the male driver of the utility was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver, also male, escaped injury and was taken to the hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from the South Coast Police District have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the earlier crash, with a report to be prepared for the Coroner.

These incidents highlight the urgent need for road safety awareness, especially on busy highways where conditions can change rapidly. As investigations continue, local authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and stay updated on road conditions.
