Jerzy Robinson, the fifth-ranked player in the girls’ SportsCenter NEXT 100 class of 2026, has officially committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks. The announcement was made on March 12, 2024, during an interview with ESPN on “NBA Today.” Robinson expressed a deep sense of peace in her decision, stating, “I chose South Carolina because I had a sense of peace when it came down to the decision for me.”

Robinson, a 6-foot-2 guard from Sierra Canyon High School in California, emphasized the role of her faith in guiding her choice. “I was guided by my faith throughout my recruitment. I just consulted the Lord, asked for direction and some guidance,” she explained. After discussions with her family, they concluded that South Carolina felt like home.

As the highest-rated recruit in Dawn Staley’s 2026 class, Robinson joins two other top prospects who committed earlier this fall: Kaeli Wynn and Kelsi Andrews. Her commitment marks a significant milestone, as she was the last five-star player in her class to select a program. Robinson had previously visited UConn and LSU before making her decision.

Robinson’s Journey and Impact

Reflecting on her visit to South Carolina, Robinson stated, “When I visited South Carolina, I was already home. I felt valued there.” The Gamecocks, currently ranked third with a record of 12-1, are fresh off an SEC championship and a trip to the NCAA Final Four. They also hold an impressive 89-game winning streak against unranked opponents, the longest in Division I history. Under Staley’s leadership since 2008, South Carolina has secured three NCAA titles.

Robinson’s journey has been notable, particularly her relationship with Staley, which began with a phone call when she was just 14. “It feels like a full circle moment,” she remarked. “Playing basketball has always been my love and my passion. To see it pay off… I just have so much gratitude.”

A dominant force on the court, Robinson is recognized for her aggressive style of play. ESPN recruiting analyst Shane Laflin highlighted her defensive skills and rebounding ability, noting, “She brings an in-your-face competitive nature to the floor.” After recovering from a leg injury, Robinson aims to lead her high school team to a championship title in her senior year.

Career Highlights and Future Aspirations

Despite facing challenges, including a drop in her national ranking from first to fifth over the past year, Robinson remains focused on her growth. “It’s not about a player dropping; some of it is about a player rising,” Laflin commented, referencing the outstanding performance of other players in her class. Last season, Robinson averaged an impressive 27 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Robinson has also made her mark on the national stage, winning three gold medals with Team USA, including a standout performance at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Brno, Czechia, where she averaged 7.7 points and four rebounds per game.

In addition to her athletic achievements, Robinson has secured a notable NIL deal with Nike, becoming one of the first high school girls to receive a major shoe endorsement. Her commitment to South Carolina not only enhances her career prospects but also adds to the Gamecocks’ reputation as a powerhouse in women’s basketball.

With her sights set on the future, Robinson is eager to contribute to the success of her new team and continue her development as a top-tier athlete.
