BREAKING: Football Victoria (FV) has just announced transformative plans to revitalize soccer facilities in northern suburbs like Hume and Whittlesea, aiming to meet the surging demand for the sport. The newly released 2025-2035 Facilities Strategy Framework outlines an urgent wishlist that emphasizes modern amenities, better lighting, and improved pitches, crucial for accommodating a 43% surge in participation since 2022.

The need for these upgrades is pressing; currently, there is only one pitch available for every 7,000 players, falling significantly short of the industry standard of one for every 5,000 players. This disparity highlights the immediate requirement for enhanced infrastructure as grassroots football continues to gain momentum.

In Whittlesea, FV has pinpointed a vital need for new facilities at Ashley Park Reserve and Central Wollert Sports Reserve. Plans include a synthetic pitch upgrade at Hillsview Recreation Reserve and enhanced floodlighting at Painted Hills Reserve to improve safety for players. A spokesperson for Whittlesea Council confirmed ongoing discussions with FV about these upgrades, stating that both the Hillsview Reserve Synthetic Pitch and Painted Hills Reserve floodlighting are part of their capital works program this financial year.

Meanwhile, FV’s vision for Hume includes a synthetic pitch renewal at ABD Stadium, significant upgrades at Bradford Avenue Reserve, and the development of new pitches at Dwyer Street Reserve and the Merrifield West Precinct. Additional upgrades are planned at Gibb Reserve and Langama Park, focusing on inclusive facilities that promote equal participation across all demographics.

FV Chair Dr. Angela Williams emphasized the importance of these developments, stating, “With an ever-growing population, we can’t afford to have football facilities across our state fall further behind. At the heart of this vision is a commitment to creating environments where players of all ages, genders, and backgrounds can thrive.”

The urgency of this initiative cannot be overstated. FV is calling on local councils, community clubs, and all levels of government to collaborate in making these ambitious plans a reality. The proposed upgrades are not just about improved facilities; they represent an essential step towards inclusivity and growth in the sport.

As these developments unfold, stakeholders and community members are encouraged to stay informed and engaged. The future of grassroots football in northern Victoria hinges on these critical upgrades, reflecting a collective commitment to support and nurture the next generation of players.

Stay tuned for more updates as FV and local councils work together to bring these essential upgrades to fruition.
