URGENT UPDATE: Former AFL standout Phoenix Spicer has just signed with Hoppers Crossing for the 2026 season, marking a significant move in the Western Football League (WFL). As teams finalize their rosters following the conclusion of the Division 1 season, Spicer’s addition is set to make waves.

Drafted at pick 42 by North Melbourne in the 2020 national draft, Spicer has a solid track record. He developed through South Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League and went on to play for both Morphettville Park and Henley High School. Over three seasons, he played a total of 12 games in the AFL, making his debut in round 23 of the 2021 season.

Now, Spicer is reuniting with his former teammate, Jared Polec, who is the coach at Hoppers Crossing. Spicer also made an impression this year, being named in the Victorian Football League state team squad while playing with Footscray. His move to Hoppers Crossing signifies a new chapter for the talented player.

In a contrasting turn of events, Nick Buykx, the captain of Point Cook, is set to leave the club. Langwarrin, located in Melbourne’s southeast, announced on social media that Buykx will join them for the upcoming season, in what is considered a massive signing for their team.

Buykx led the Bulldogs to their first Division 1 grand final in 2023, where they faced a hard-fought loss against Werribee Districts. Throughout the 2025 season, he played 16 games, netting 19 goals and earning a place among the best players nine times. His recognition as part of the Division 1 Team of the Year demonstrates his impact on the field.

As both players transition into new roles, fans and teams alike are eager to see how these developments will shape the upcoming WFL season. Stay tuned for further updates as more signings and moves unfold in the league.
