The division 1 team claimed a decisive 65-52 victory over Sunshine Schwartz, marking a historic night as both their division 1 and division 2 sides celebrated championship wins.
The Hawks soared to an impressive 18-12 lead in the first quarter, solidifying their dominance with a 12-goal advantage by halftime. Despite a closer contest in the second half, the Hawks maintained their composure, ultimately clinching the victory. Star player Payton Simeki delivered a stellar performance, scoring 38 goals at an impressive 97 percent accuracy, earning her the title of best on court.
Coach Hicks praised her team’s dedication and resilience, stating,
“To all my coaches and all the girls… all of that effort. You show up every week and you guys trusted the process.”
Hicks highlighted the remarkable talent of 16-year-old Simeki, who previously led the division 2 scoring before stepping up to the top grade this season.
In the division 2 grand final, the Hawks dominated Altona with a final score of 35-20, with defender Honor Brodie also receiving best on court honors. This double victory adds to the momentum as the Hawks prepare for additional grand finals, with five more teams competing this Friday.
