UPDATE: The Golden Highway is currently closed in both directions due to a serious two-vehicle crash that occurred east of Dubbo. Emergency services responded at approximately 11:00 AM on December 19, 2025, to reports of the incident near Beni, just 15 kilometers from Dubbo.
Motorists are advised that the highway is shut down between Beni Road and Barbigal Road, causing significant travel disruptions. This incident is unrelated to a separate three-vehicle crash that previously closed the Mitchell Highway from 8:45 AM to 11:00 AM today at Beni Street, Wongarbon.
Transport for NSW has issued urgent guidance for drivers already in the area. Expect an additional travel time of at least 60 minutes due to diversions currently in place. Eastbound motorists should detour using Barbigal Road, Mitchell Highway, and Saxa Road. For those traveling west, the recommended diversion includes Muronbung Road, Saxa Road, and the Mitchell Highway. These routes accommodate all vehicle types, including B Doubles.
Authorities stress that operators of Class 1, 2, and 3 vehicles under a Notice must consult their enforceable network map for alternative routes. Furthermore, those traveling under a Permit are reminded not to deviate from their approved routes without obtaining an updated permit from the NHVR.
Emergency services and traffic crews are currently on-site managing the situation and ensuring the safety of all involved. As this story develops, updates will be provided. Stay tuned for further information on road conditions and safety advisories.
This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of travel and the importance of staying informed. If you are in the area, please check for real-time updates and adjust your travel plans accordingly.
