URGENT UPDATE: In a groundbreaking move this Principal’s Week, Global Village Learning (GVL) is redefining educational leadership with its innovative approach. Peter and Pip, the unconventional leaders of GVL, are challenging traditional educational norms and empowering young learners like never before.

At GVL, located in New Gisborne and expanding to the historic Old Castlemaine Gaol, the old model of education is being replaced by a vibrant, learner-led community. Gone are the days of rigid classrooms and principals behind desks. Instead, Peter and Pip walk alongside students, fostering an environment where creativity and real-world impact thrive.

Since its inception, GVL has adopted a Montessori-inspired learning model, centered around Developmental Learning Hubs. These hubs replace conventional year levels with natural stages of growth, catering to ages 4–20: Foundations & Play (4–8), Exploration & Discovery (7–12), Entrepreneurship & Social Impact (11–16), and Pathways & Futures (15–20). This innovative structure allows over 200 learners, including many who are neurodivergent, to engage deeply in their education.

Pip and Peter’s leadership is not just about administration; it’s about reimagining what education can be. Their focus on personalized learning, mastery, and community contribution has led to initiatives like the EDventurous Projects, where students build social enterprises and explore sustainability issues that matter to them.

Families and educators are closely watching GVL as it emerges as a model for learner-led education across Australia. The impact of Peter and Pip’s vision is palpable, as they cultivate a community that prioritizes connection, creativity, and meaningful engagement.

As we celebrate this Principal’s Week, it is essential to recognize that true educational leadership can take many forms. Peter and Pip demonstrate that it often looks like shared meals, muddy boots, and heartfelt conversations—an approach grounded in a profound belief in the potential of young people to drive change.

This urgent transformation in education highlights a critical shift towards a more inclusive and engaging learning environment. As GVL continues to grow and evolve, the educational landscape is being reshaped for future generations.
