UPDATE: In a significant escalation of tensions, Hamas has publicly declared it will not disarm until a State of Palestine is established. This statement came in response to remarks made by U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, during a meeting with families of Israeli hostages in Tel Aviv earlier today.

Hamas asserted, “The resistance and its weapons will not be abandoned until our full national rights are restored.” This declaration marks a pivotal moment in ongoing conflicts in the region, underscoring the complexities surrounding disarmament and peace negotiations.

Meanwhile, deadly clashes erupted in Syria’s southern province of Sweida as “outlawed” groups violated a fragile ceasefire. Syrian state media reported that these groups attacked internal security forces, leading to the death of one member and injuries to several others. This violence comes at a time when Syria’s interim government is striving to restore stability in the war-torn province.

In another tragic development, the death toll from a migrant boat capsizing off the coast of Yemen has soared to 68 dead with 74 others missing. Rescue operations are ongoing amid rough seas, with local officials confirming that 12 survivors were rescued and transported to Shaqra General Hospital. Medical staff report that some survivors are in critical condition, emphasizing the dire circumstances faced by migrants risking their lives.

On a different front, tens of thousands of Australians participated in a pro-Palestine protest across Sydney’s iconic Harbor Bridge, despite heavy rainfall. The demonstration, organized by the Palestine Action Group, highlighted the ongoing crisis in Gaza and drew significant public attention, showcasing widespread support for Palestinian rights.

Additionally, a strong aftershock measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula earlier today. Fortunately, authorities have indicated that tsunami waves are not expected to exceed 19 cm, minimizing immediate threats to the region.
