BREAKING: The 65th Logie Awards kicked off in Sydney, Australia, with a high-energy performance by iconic rocker Jimmy Barnes and a sharp-witted roast from host Sam Pang. The ceremony, which celebrates the finest in Australian television, saw the star-studded crowd erupt in applause after Barnes performed his hit, “Working Class Man,” setting a lively tone for the night.
Pang, returning as host for the third consecutive year, lauded the resilience of the television industry amidst global turmoil. “It’s inspiring that with the world in as much turmoil as it is right now, we as an industry have not wavered in our commitment and bravery in coming together tonight to honour ourselves,” he stated, before teasing nominees for the highly coveted Gold Logie.
This year’s nominees include Sonia Kruger, the 2023 winner, Julia Morris from Ten’s “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!”, and Hamish Blake, a two-time winner and current host of “Lego Masters.” Pang humorously predicted Blake’s acceptance speech would be the “most awkward ever” if he won again.
The first award of the night went to Seven’s The Voice, claiming the title of Best Entertainment Program. The ceremony also marked a significant moment for Kerri-Anne Kennerley, who was playfully roasted by Pang for not being a nominee this year.
As the red carpet buzzed with excitement, Lisa Millar, Lynne McGranger, and Ally Langdon strutted their stuff, with McGranger being a strong contender for the Gold Logie after stepping away from her role on “Home and Away.” She appeared radiant, holding hands with her daughter Clancy as they posed for photos.
The beloved children’s series Bluey was also in the spotlight, winning Best Children’s Program, while the ceremony will honor Magda Szubanski with an induction into the Logies Hall of Fame. This honor comes just months after Szubanski revealed her battle with stage four blood cancer.
Adding to the excitement, a new award—the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Reporter—will debut this year. Nominees include Ally Langdon, Tara Brown, and Peter Overton among others.
All eyes will be on the limited Netflix series “Apple Cider Vinegar,” which has garnered eight nominations, including categories for Best Supporting Actor and Actress as it tells the controversial story of wellness influencer Belle Gibson.
The Logie Awards are being broadcast live on the Seven Network, and viewers are eagerly awaiting the results of the night. With the ceremony well underway, the atmosphere is electric, filled with anticipation for who will take home the coveted awards.
Stay tuned for live updates as the evening unfolds, showcasing the best of Australian television talent.
