UPDATE: The iconic Kangaroo Valley Show is back, taking place on February 13 and 14, 2023, at the Kangaroo Valley Showground in Osborne Park. This year marks a celebration of 139 years of agricultural tradition, featuring an exhilarating lineup that blends community spirit with unique events.

The show is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, and organizers are promising a program unlike any other. Media coordinator Julie Ward emphasizes the event’s special charm, recalling her first experience at the show amidst challenging times. “It’s called the Friendly Show for a reason,” she stated. “With the mountains behind the arena, it sits in a natural amphitheater.”

The centerpiece of this year’s event is the horse arena, which has seen significant growth annually. “Last year, we introduced thoroughbred horse racing with horses retrained for equestrian, creating beautiful second-chance stories,” Ms. Ward explained.

In a unique twist, the show will feature canoe racing, a nod to the region’s reputation as the canoe capital of the world. “This involves literally putting a canoe over your head and sprinting for 100m. You won’t find that anywhere else!” Ms. Ward added.

Public interest is skyrocketing, with many attendees eagerly anticipating the return of the Valley Shorts short film festival, scheduled for 7 PM on Friday, February 13. This event highlights local creativity and storytelling, enhancing the festival experience.

Food lovers will not be disappointed, as the show will host an Angus beef burger bar run by local farmers, alongside four distilleries serving refreshing drinks. An exciting live cheese judging event will occur on Friday afternoon, offering attendees a chance to witness the tasting process and learn from the experts.

“Kangaroo Valley has one of the few cheese and dairy sections in the area, and our live cheese judging is both educational and entertaining,” Ms. Ward noted.

The Kangaroo Valley Show is not just another event; it is a vital part of the community, so much so that a public holiday is designated for the first day of the show. “Kids burst with excitement to get in the gate at 8:30 in the morning,” Ms. Ward said, highlighting the event’s deep-rooted traditions.

Tickets are available both online and at the gate, ensuring that everyone can partake in this cherished community celebration.

With its blend of tradition, excitement, and community engagement, the Kangaroo Valley Show promises to be a must-see event this February. Don’t miss out on the fun and festivities!
