The City of Karratha has adopted its 2025-2035 Council Plan.

UPDATE: The City of Karratha has just announced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at alleviating the housing crisis for local workers. The new Supported Accommodation Scheme Policy, endorsed earlier today, is designed to provide immediate relief for low and middle-income earners struggling to secure affordable accommodation.

This urgent policy aims to assist small to medium businesses in offering housing options to their employees, directly addressing the growing demand for accessible housing in the region. Notably, any additional available accommodations will also prioritize allied health service employees and educators providing tertiary qualifications.

Applications for this vital scheme are set to open in late July 2023, with plans to make six units on Warrier Street in Bulgarra available for new occupants. This initiative is crucial for retaining skilled workers in Karratha, ensuring the city’s livability for all residents.

Mayor Daniel Scott emphasized the importance of this policy, stating, “By adopting this policy, we will be able to provide some affordable housing options to low to middle-income workers in our community, as well as health care workers and supporting education providers.” This statement underscores the commitment of the Karratha council to foster a supportive environment for essential workers.

The council will also engage with stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of the policy, with a report on engagement outcomes and progress scheduled for six months from now. This proactive approach highlights the city’s dedication to addressing housing shortages and supporting its workforce.

As the housing crisis continues to escalate, the Karratha community eagerly awaits the positive impacts of this new policy. Share this urgent update to keep others informed about how local efforts are turning the tide on housing challenges for workers in the area.
