UPDATE: A brutal homicide case has unfolded in Melbourne, where a killer, Dylan Wyatt, 38, followed a deadly plan set by his co-conspirators during a violent assault that left Matthew Warrington dead and his remains mutilated. In shocking details revealed in the Victorian Supreme Court, Wyatt, along with Kasha McIver, 39, and Brendan Dalton, 54, plotted the heinous attack after Warrington took the fall for McIver’s 2.5 kg drug stash.

The assault occurred on July 16, 2023, at a home in Chadstone, where the trio attacked Warrington, ultimately leading to his death. On the morning of July 18, Wyatt disposed of Warrington’s body in a wheelie bin near the busy Glen Waverley train line. Disturbing evidence, including photos of the mutilated victim, was circulated by Wyatt after the crime.

Court proceedings revealed that Warrington was found with severe injuries, including a missing finger and tape around his neck, suggesting he may have been strangled. The autopsy could not conclusively determine his cause of death. Crown prosecutor David Glynn stated that the attack stemmed from a scheme where Warrington allowed McIver to claim ownership of his drugs, leading to the fatal confrontation.

Despite the gruesome details, Wyatt’s barrister, Emily Clark, argued that her client held no personal grievance against Warrington. Instead, she claimed it was McIver and Dalton who masterminded the attack. She acknowledged Wyatt’s active participation in the assault and subsequent mutilation. In a bid for leniency, Clark highlighted Wyatt’s troubled upbringing, mental health struggles, and impending deportation back to New Zealand at the end of his sentence.

McIver’s defense attorney, Ruth Shann SC, emphasized her client’s mental impairments and expressed hopes for her rehabilitation, citing positive responses to treatment. Meanwhile, Dalton’s lawyer, John Desmond, sought a reduced sentence for his client, arguing that Dalton was not physically involved in the murder but instead facilitated the attack by coordinating transportation for Wyatt and McIver.

As the courtroom awaits the ruling from Justice James Gorton, the community is left reeling from this horrifying act of violence. The trio’s fate hangs in the balance as they face serious sentencing for their roles in this brutal crime.
