UPDATE: The Koorda Agricultural Society has announced a remarkable yield of 1.7 tonnes per hectare from their 200ha Vixen wheat crop, ensuring the continuation of the beloved annual Koorda Show. This significant achievement, confirmed earlier today, highlights the community’s dedication and collaboration in supporting local agriculture.
The wheat, sown in May, has generated essential funds for the society’s flagship event, which has been a cornerstone of community life since the 1930s. According to society secretary Kim Storer, the success of the 2025 crop not only demonstrates agricultural prowess but also strengthens the foundation for the future of the Koorda Show.
“This was a true community effort,” Storer stated. “Local farmers contributed time, expertise, and resources, while businesses provided vital donations of seed, chemicals, and equipment.” The machinery was supplied by AFGRI Equipment in Dalwallinu, facilitating a seamless and efficient harvest that concluded in just a few days.
The crop, located five kilometers west of Koorda, was made possible through generous contributions from local families, including the Nicholls, Fuchsbichler, Lego, Inman, Greaves, Storer, and Jones families. Storer expressed gratitude to a local farmer who leased land to plant the crop, emphasizing the spirit of cooperation that underpinned this initiative.
Favorable growing conditions throughout the season allowed for optimal crop establishment, leading to a successful harvest. The funds raised will be crucial for maintaining free entry for children under the age of 16, as well as offering free rides and entertainment for families at the annual show, ensuring it remains accessible to everyone.
As plans for the 2026 Koorda Show are already in motion, the society remains optimistic about the future, buoyed by the success of the current crop. The Koorda Agricultural Society also extends its sincere thanks to the Shire of Koorda for its financial support over the past two years, which has been instrumental in sustaining this community event.
This annual cropping initiative transcends mere fundraising; it is a testament to Koorda’s resilience, collaboration, and commitment to fostering a vibrant future for generations to come. The community’s solidarity serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together with a shared purpose.
Stay tuned for further updates as the Koorda Agricultural Society continues to build on this success and prepare for the upcoming events that celebrate the heart of rural life.
