Leah Keating, a talented netballer from Corowa-Rutherglen, is set to join the Bright Netball Club in the Ovens and King League for the 2024 season. This decision comes after her significant contributions to the Corowa-Rutherglen Roos, who successfully returned from a recess in 2023.

Keating expressed that her move was motivated by a desire for a more sustainable balance between her netball commitments and personal life. She noted her connections to Bright played a crucial role in her decision. “I won’t be playing every game with Bright; however, I will play when it’s possible and aim for as many as I can,” Keating stated. She emphasized that her ties to Corowa netball remain strong, particularly her friendship with teammate Soph Hanrahan.

Flexible Role at Bright

The versatile midcourter is prepared to fill any position needed by Bright on game days. “The aim is coming in to supplement the team and club, which is exciting,” she added. Keating is currently managing a back injury sustained at the start of 2025, which she plans to focus on while balancing her involvement with Bright.

“The flexibility of this arrangement allows me to travel with my family while still contributing to Bright netball throughout the season,” she explained. Keating is particularly enthusiastic about Bright’s commitment to developing a strong foundation, especially through their junior programs. She commended the club’s leadership under Ash Grimes in the senior teams, noting that Grimes’ mother, Clare, coaches the under-15s.

Past Success and Future Aspirations

Reflecting on her previous experiences in the Ovens and Murray league, Keating highlighted her time playing for both the Roos and the Saints. She earned the league’s C-grade best and fairest award with Myrtleford in 2023 before moving up to the A-grade competition.

“Ovens and Murray netball is very fast-paced with skill precision,” Keating remarked. “The margins between games are minimal, spread across the majority of the teams in A-grade. Every game was a tough game and anyone’s to win. It’s a great foundation for learning and refining skills.”

Keating also recognized the impact of former coaches, particularly Sally Clark Hunter and Soph Hanrahan, acknowledging their guidance in previous years. With Hanrahan taking on a more prominent coaching role for 2026, Keating is optimistic about the future of Corowa netball and her role at Bright.

As the new season approaches, Leah Keating looks forward to contributing her skills and experience to Bright while maintaining her connection with the Corowa netball community.
