URGENT UPDATE: Leura Public School’s P&C association has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to upgrade its outdated library, aiming to raise $50,000 by the end of 2025. With just $17,000 secured so far, the clock is ticking to reach their goal before the library’s anticipated reopening in 2026.

President Rebecca Selkirk emphasized the urgent need for modernization, stating, “Modernising a space as crucial as the library is something our children greatly need.” The refurbishment proposal includes essential upgrades such as new technology, furniture, books, shelves, and flooring. The current facilities are described as outdated and in desperate need of improvement.

To accelerate fundraising efforts, the P&C association is hosting a series of engaging events. The first, a book nerd trivia night, is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, at Scenic World. This over-18 event charges $10 per person or $100 for a table, with snack pizza generously donated by Scenic World included in the ticket price.

Following this, on Saturday, September 20, the P&C will hold its third annual Under the Stars Movie Night, featuring the beloved film My Neighbour Totoro. Sponsored by Crunchyroll and Bendigo Bank, this family-friendly event will take place at the town water supply tank, with tickets priced at $10 each; children under two can attend for free.

Local businesses are also being invited to participate by advertising on the school’s front fence, further contributing to the fundraising efforts. For more details and to purchase tickets, visit the P&C website at leurapandc.weebly.com.

The community’s support is vital as the P&C works towards creating a modern educational space that benefits all students. With these events on the horizon, residents are encouraged to engage and contribute to this essential cause.
