URGENT UPDATE: The Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) has officially opened its new Social Services Department branch in Liverpool, Sydney, as of July 23, 2025. This significant development marks a crucial expansion in the LMA’s mission to support culturally diverse communities in Australia.

The ceremony, which took place earlier today, featured a traditional Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgement of Country, highlighting the importance of Indigenous recognition. LMA CEO Khal Asfour delivered a stirring address, reflecting on the organization’s 63-year legacy and outlining its vision for the future.

Raed Halabi, the LMA Vice President and a key figure in the Liverpool community, expressed enthusiasm for the new branch, stating: “The LMA recognizes the vital need for representation in the Liverpool area as our community now resides here in vast numbers. Exciting times are ahead, definitely.”

The event also showcased a powerful endorsement from Nicole Morell, LMA Executive Manager, who emphasized the branch’s role in providing essential resources. “The LMA Social Service Department will be a vital resource for young people and communities in Liverpool and beyond – providing practical help, emotional support, and pathways to stability, dignity, and empowerment,” she announced.

A highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the Youth Transition Support (YTS) Program, designed for humanitarian entrants and newly arrived migrants aged 15 to 25. This initiative focuses on offering assistance in employment, education, vocational pathways, social inclusion, and cultural integration.

Participant Aly Mashaly shared his heartfelt experience with the YTS Program, detailing how it helped him acquire life skills and forge meaningful community connections. His journey culminated in securing employment as a barista, illustrating the program’s direct impact on young lives.

The opening culminated with Hafez Alameddine, LMA President, cutting the red ribbon to officially inaugurate the new facility located at Level 2, 59 Scott Street, Liverpool. Guests were invited to tour the new office and enjoy a light lunch, fostering networking opportunities within the community.
