BREAKING: Local author and illustrator Rachel Jackson has just released her highly anticipated third book, Escape from Firestone Fortress, sending ripples of excitement through the literary community. This latest addition to her Solve it Your Way series hit shelves on January 10, 2026, just over a year after her second book, Escape from Marigold Manor, captivated young readers.
This interactive adventure invites readers into a world of chaos and creativity, where they will hatch their very own dragon and navigate a rival fortress. With a staggering 38 different endings, the choices made by readers determine the type of dragon they hatch—be it a gold, fire, lead, or snow dragon.
Jackson, a dedicated mother of two, managed this monumental project while balancing a full-time job. “I created this with a brain that never sleeps and spreadsheets,” she explained, showcasing her relentless dedication to inspiring young readers. Her journey began in 2023 with her first book, Escape from Cuttlefish Cove, aimed at children aged eight to twelve.
“I’m really proud, happy, and surprised that they’re out there,” Jackson said, expressing her joy at receiving positive feedback from children and parents alike. “It’s amazing to hear that kids who don’t usually engage with traditional books are picking them up and finishing them.”
The new book promises an engaging experience unlike any other. “In Escape from Firestone Fortress, you are the magician’s apprentice. Your task is to steal a mythical Firestone,” Jackson described. “It turns out the Firestone is a dragon egg, and your decisions lead to the fate of the dragon you hatch.”
Local readers are in for a treat as Books Plus will host interactive sessions with in-store games and activities from January 10 until the end of the school holidays. Jackson will be at the store on the launch day from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., alongside Ember the dragon, to promote her latest work.
Ember is a creation of local designer Elizabeth Rehling from Elizabeth Jane Designs, who has collaborated with Jackson to enhance the interactive experience. “I’m thrilled to be part of this series,” Rehling stated, emphasizing her excitement for the upcoming projects.
Jackson aims to keep the momentum going, with plans for a fourth book set in an intergalactic circus, slated for release in 2027. “One review called my books ‘chaotic in the best possible way,’ which I believe captures the spirit of this series,” she noted.
As excitement builds, Escape from Firestone Fortress not only enriches the lives of young readers but also reinforces Jackson’s commitment to making reading an engaging experience. With her innovative approach, she continues to reshape the landscape of children’s literature, one adventure at a time.
Don’t miss out on the chance to meet Jackson and embark on this thrilling journey. The books are now available across Australia, and with the interactive events, young readers can dive into the chaos and creativity of Jackson’s world.
