
UPDATE: A man has been charged after police dramatically rescued two individuals from a burning home in Doonside early Thursday morning. Emergency services responded to reports of a disturbance on Wangara St at 4:25 AM, only to find the house engulfed in flames.
Upon arrival, police discovered a vehicle ablaze in the garage and another damaged vehicle parked outside. In an urgent move, officers forced their way into the burning building where they found a 45-year-old man allegedly detaining a 35-year-old man. The two were quickly separated by law enforcement as flames raged around them.
According to a police spokesman, “Both men were pulled from the house a short time later.” The 35-year-old man sustained facial injuries and was transported to Westmead Hospital. Four police officers at the scene were assessed for smoke inhalation but did not require further treatment.
Meanwhile, the 45-year-old man was arrested and taken to Westmead Hospital for burns on his back. He has been charged with several offenses, including detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage, causing actual bodily harm, and damaging property by fire. Following a bedside hearing, he was refused bail and is expected to appear in Blacktown Local Court on September 8.
Authorities report that NSW Fire and Rescue acted quickly to extinguish the blaze, preventing further damage and potential injuries. This incident highlights the urgent need for safety and vigilance within the community as investigations continue.
