UPDATE: A new section of northbound lanes on Epping Road has officially opened, dramatically improving travel for drivers in Wollert. This significant milestone in the Big Build Roads program was completed on September 24, 2023, enhancing connectivity for thousands of commuters.
The newly opened lanes stretch between Harvest Home Road and Craigieburn Road East, allowing for smoother traffic flow in this busy area. With this upgrade, essential turn and through-lanes from key side roads—including Lehmanns Road, Pine Park Drive, Linfield Drive, Baltrum Drive, and Harvest Home Road—have also been restored, providing improved access for local residents and commuters.
Dipal Sorathia, director of the Big Build Roads program, stated, “We’re pleased to have opened the new section of northbound lanes on Epping Road in a huge milestone that also allowed us to resume full movement from a number of key side roads. We thank the community for their patience as we continue working toward delivering safer, smoother travel and better connections for all the users of Epping Road.”
As traffic resumes, vehicles are currently moving in one lane each direction while crews finalize work on the center median, which is expected to wrap up by late October 2023. To minimize disruption during this period, De Rossi Boulevard will remain closed until October 4, while a new raised pedestrian crossing is being installed. Additionally, Lyndarum Drive is undergoing intersection upgrades and is scheduled to reopen by mid-October.
The Epping Road Upgrade is on track to complete major works before the end of the year, adding lanes in each direction along a 4-kilometer stretch between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Avenue. Notably, this project will also introduce new walking and cycling paths, enhancing safety and connectivity for the local community.
