new-social-group-combats-isolation-with-bushwalks-and-books

UPDATE: A new social initiative in the Central Coast is making waves, combining a monthly book club with bushwalks to tackle loneliness among young adults. Georgia Young, the founder of BooksBushBullshit, is spearheading this innovative program aimed at individuals aged 20 to 45. The group, which operates primarily through Instagram (@booksbushbullshit), is set to host its next activity—blood donation in Gosford—in a bid to engage the community in health-focused events.

Young, a social work student, identified a critical gap in social offerings for her age group. “There were a lot of drinking-related activities, but I wanted to do something health-related,” she explained. This initiative comes in response to the rising concerns around mental health, particularly among younger demographics facing social isolation.

In a recent event, the group enjoyed indoor rock climbing, showcasing its commitment to diverse and active gatherings. Young’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, with local MP Liesl Tesch praising her as “one of the inspirational young people doing great things on the Coast.” Tesch noted, “It’s ideas like Georgia’s that are making for a really positive outlook on the Coast.”

The emotional impact of Young’s work is profound. “It warms my heart,” she shared, highlighting stories from participants who have found connection and support through the group. One member, a recent immigrant from New Zealand, expressed how much she missed her friends, while an emergency department doctor thanked Young for helping him reconnect with nature.

Upcoming activities include bushwalks in Brisbane Water and Bouddi National Parks, aimed at fostering community ties and promoting mental well-being. Young is actively seeking additional volunteers to help facilitate these events, encouraging like-minded individuals to reach out via Instagram.

This innovative approach not only addresses the needs of young adults seeking meaningful connections but also promotes mental health through physical activity and shared experiences. As loneliness remains a pressing issue, initiatives like BooksBushBullshit are crucial in creating supportive environments for community members.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Young and her group continue to inspire and engage the Central Coast community!
