URGENT UPDATE: New wayfinding signs have just been unveiled in Torquay, a move aimed at enhancing walkability, improving the visitor experience, and supporting local retailers. The $370,000 project, funded by the Victorian Government and the Surf Coast Shire, was officially launched last week, with local officials emphasizing its immediate benefits.
The new signage provides clearer directions to local attractions and natural features, making it easier for both residents and visitors to navigate the area. This initiative is designed to strengthen connections between key precincts, beaches, and cultural sites, ensuring that everyone can fully enjoy what Torquay has to offer.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney, joined Surf Coast Shire Mayor Libby Stapleton in Torquay to celebrate the completion of this significant project. “Locals know Torquay is a special place beyond the surf and swells,” Tierney stated. “This project is about highlighting that—to communities and visitors alike.”
The funding breakdown reveals that the Victorian Government contributed $175,000 through its Growing Suburbs Fund and an additional $20,000 from the Regional Infrastructure Fund. Since 2020, the Surf Coast Shire has received over $4 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, supporting three projects valued at more than $10 million.
This funding initiative has enabled a total of 370 projects across Victoria since 2015, amounting to an impressive $1.3 billion in investment and creating approximately 11,300 jobs.
The unveiling of these signs is not just about navigation; it represents a commitment to enhancing the local community and economy. As visitors flock to Torquay, the improved signage is set to make a tangible difference in their experience and the livelihood of local businesses.
Stay tuned for more developments as this project continues to unfold and positively impact the Torquay community.
