URGENT UPDATE: Nominations are now open for the prestigious 2026 Everald Compton Community Champion Medal, announced by National Seniors Australia (NSA) ahead of International Volunteer Day on December 5. This distinguished award recognizes everyday heroes making profound impacts within their communities.

The announcement was made by NSA Founder Everald Compton AO, NSA Chair Ross Glossop, and NSA CEO Chris Grice, alongside inaugural medal recipient Wayne Sticher, who founded Cycling Without Age Gold Coast. The initiative, launched in January 2020, provides free trishaw rides for older individuals, those with disabilities, and people facing loneliness, fostering social interaction and connection with nature.

Chris Grice emphasized the significance of recognizing these champions: “At NSA, we often witness the incredible contributions of our older community members. Their volunteering, time, and skills—though often behind the scenes—create lasting impacts.”

Nomination criteria for the Everald Compton Community Champion Medal include categories such as community impact, leadership and inspiration, community involvement, inclusivity and accessibility, and intergenerational efforts.

In 2026, in a groundbreaking move, a new category will be introduced focusing on support in the areas of dementia care and mental health, reflecting the growing importance of these issues in society.

DEADLINE ALERT: Interested individuals must submit nominations promptly to ensure their candidates are considered for this honor. The recognition not only highlights the winners but also inspires others to engage in community service.

This is a vital opportunity for communities to honor those making a difference. Share this information widely to encourage nominations and celebrate the spirit of volunteerism. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach International Volunteer Day!
