UPDATE: Perth Glory has clinched a vital 1-0 win against Adelaide United at the Sam Kerr Football Centre, propelling them into the A-League Women’s top six. Rola Badawiya’s decisive first-half goal was enough to secure the victory, marking Glory’s second consecutive win in a match that showcased their resilience despite struggles in possession.

The match unfolded with both teams fighting hard, but it was Glory’s tactical discipline that shone through. Missing key player Onyinyechi Zogg due to a quad injury, Glory relied on a makeshift defense. Goalkeeper Teresa Morrissey and defenders Tijan McKenna and Mischa Anderson effectively thwarted Adelaide’s attempts, while Julia Sardo excelled at left-back.

As the first half progressed, chances were scarce. Adelaide dominated possession with 71 percent of the ball and a pass accuracy of 78 percent, while Perth struggled with just 53.4 percent accuracy. The breakthrough came in the 39th minute when a free-kick from Georgia Cassidy was poorly cleared, allowing Badawiya to find the net from close range.

Immediately after, Adelaide pressed for an equalizer, with Erin Healy forcing a critical save from Morrissey. Glory nearly extended their lead shortly after halftime, but Bronte Trew missed a golden opportunity by shooting high and wide.

As the game wore on, Adelaide’s attempts to level the score were met with strong defensive play. Morrissey continued to impress, notably denying Healy, who had a clear chance on goal. Despite Adelaide’s late surge for a goal, including a threatening attempt from Susan Phonsongkham, the match ended in Glory’s favor, solidifying their position in the league.

This victory is a significant boost for coach Stephen Peters and his squad, especially after overcoming a four-game winless streak earlier in the season. As Perth Glory prepares for their upcoming matches, fans will be eager to see if this momentum can lead to further success.
