UPDATE: A coalition of local churches and police has just launched a vital Christmas hamper drive in Melton, aiming to support families in need during this challenging holiday season. The initiative, now in its third year, has expanded to meet the growing demands of the community, with over 200 hampers prepared for distribution.
The partnership between Melton Police Station and Sureway International Christian Ministries has gained momentum, now joined by Melton Christian Church. Reverend Dr William Osagiede emphasized the urgent need for support, stating, “There’s a need for it now more than ever before.” The program aims to alleviate the pressures of rising living costs, particularly as food prices soar.
The community-focused initiative not only provides essential food items but also seeks to bring joy to families during the holiday period. “We purchase the food, we buy everything ourselves and package it together. Our goal is to put a smile on people’s faces during this period,” Reverend Osagiede added.
Acting Sergeant and Neighbourhood Policing Co-ordinator Joanne Mutsearts highlighted the importance of community engagement. “It’s often really difficult for people to reach out and ask for help, and being able to hand over these small hampers lets you see firsthand the impact they have,” she said.
The local police force expressed gratitude for the church’s generosity in preparing more than 200 hampers this year. “This is a small step we can take to ease the community’s burden,” Mutsearts noted.
This crucial drive is particularly timely as many families face financial hardships. The collaboration between law enforcement and local churches demonstrates a strong commitment to uplifting the community. Reverend Osagiede encourages anyone who wishes to support the cause to get involved. “The world is becoming darker and darker every day – we want to shine the light of God by giving back and helping those in need,” he stated.
As the holiday season approaches, the Melton community is reminded of the importance of unity and compassion. This initiative not only provides immediate relief but also fosters a spirit of giving and togetherness during a time when it is needed most.
Residents are urged to consider participating in this impactful program, ensuring that no family feels isolated during the festive season. The drive continues to serve as a beacon of hope, reinforcing the strength of community ties in Melton.
