URGENT UPDATE: A major police operation has just concluded in Port Stephens, where authorities inspected over 80 vehicles during a compliance blitz aimed at enhancing road safety in the Stockton Beach and Worimi Conservation areas. This operation, conducted over the weekend of December 6-7, 2023, saw officers from the Port Stephens Hunter Police District, traffic and highway patrol, and Transport for NSW join forces to tackle speeding and ensure compliance.

During the intensive inspections, a staggering 87 vehicles were directed for checks, resulting in 42 vehicles being grounded due to serious safety breaches. Authorities issued defect notices for 35 vehicles, while others received minor violations. This operation is particularly critical as it occurs during the busy holiday season, emphasizing the need for heightened compliance measures.

Police conducted nearly 400 breath tests and 10 drug tests, reflecting their commitment to ensuring driver safety. In addition, 15 vehicles faced fines for lacking beach permits, and a total of 186 infringement notices were issued for various defects. Authorities detected 30 speeding offences and issued 40 other infringements.

One alarming incident involved a driver clocked at a shocking 169 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Lemon Tree Passage Road. This driver faced a hefty fine of $3,054 and had their licence suspended for six months.

“This operation highlights our commitment to road safety and compliance during the busy holiday season,”

stated a spokesperson for NSW Police.
