URGENT UPDATE: A police officer fired at a suspected stolen vehicle driven by a 17-year-old boy during a high-speed chase through Sydney‘s western suburbs, with a 14-year-old girl as a passenger. The dramatic incident unfolded on September 20, 2023, as authorities attempted to apprehend the vehicle around 9:15 PM on Reservoir Road in Blacktown.

The chase escalated quickly after the vehicle failed to stop for police, leading to a pursuit along the M4 Motorway. The situation intensified when the driver allegedly crashed into a parked car on James Street in Leichhardt, prompting officers to fire both a gun and a Taser in response to an officer being injured by the vehicle’s door.

“Police attempted to remove the driver; however, an officer discharged their firearm at the vehicle, and another discharged a Taser, when the vehicle’s door allegedly hit and injured a police officer,”

police stated. The injured officer, a 27-year-old man, was taken to the hospital with a minor head injury and has since been discharged.

The driver, in a reckless maneuver, struck two parked cars and three police vehicles before fleeing the scene. The stolen car was later located abandoned in a driveway on Crystal Street, Petersham.

By 2 PM on September 21, officers arrested both the teenage driver and his female passenger at a residence on George Street, Erskineville. At the Newtown Police Station, the driver faces ten charges, including assaulting a police officer and driving dangerously during the pursuit. The girl has been charged with being carried in a vehicle taken without consent and breach of bail.

Both suspects have been refused bail and are scheduled to appear before the Children’s Court on September 22. This incident raises significant concerns about youth crime and public safety, highlighting the urgent need for effective interventions.

As this story develops, authorities are expected to provide further updates. Residents are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity in the area.
