UPDATE: In a major drug bust, NSW Police have seized an estimated $7.6 million worth of methamphetamine from a clandestine lab in Sutherland, charging five individuals linked to a south-west Sydney drug ring. The raid, executed earlier this week, uncovered approximately 76 kilograms of meth, alongside equipment used for drug production.
Authorities conducted the operation at a residential property in Heathcote shortly before 4 PM on Wednesday. A 48-year-old man was arrested after police discovered large glass flasks, clamps, and kitchen colanders indicative of drug manufacturing. Following the extensive investigation by the Central Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad South, the suspect faces nine charges, including supplying prohibited drugs in commercial quantities and organizing drug premises.
In a related operation, police executed search warrants in Oran Park on Friday morning, leading to the arrest of four additional suspects. Officers seized 56 grams of cocaine, $2,500 in cash, and firearms, including a loaded revolver and a rifle. Among the confiscated items was a “Dedicated Encrypted Criminal Communication Device,” which is used to facilitate criminal communication while evading law enforcement.
The arrests included two men aged 36 and 44, who face serious charges such as knowingly directing the activities of a criminal group and supplying drugs. Additionally, a 25-year-old man, a 41-year-old man, and a 28-year-old woman were apprehended in connection with the same drug ring, all facing various drug-related offenses.
All five suspects have been refused bail and are scheduled to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday. The crackdown on this drug operation underscores ongoing efforts by NSW Police to combat the drug trade in the region, highlighting the dangers posed by methamphetamine and gun violence.
As these developments unfold, the community remains on alert regarding the impact of drug-related crime. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. This urgent situation is a stark reminder of the persistent challenges law enforcement faces in tackling organized crime in Sydney.
