BREAKING NEWS: Rebekah Power, a 46-year-old mother from Albion Park, has been crowned the fastest woman in the world for her age group in the 60 metres. This remarkable achievement comes just weeks after she returned victorious from the Oceania Masters Athletics Championships held in Brisbane from September 6-10, 2025.
Power dominated the competition, securing five gold medals and one bronze from six events. She claimed gold in the 60m, 100m, 200m, 400m, and as part of the 4×100 relay team. In a stunning display of speed, she also shattered the nearly 20-year Oceania record for the 60m sprint, clocking an impressive 8.13 seconds.
The mother of two only returned to competitive running six years ago, inspired by her daughters, Ava and Ella, who also compete for Athletics Wollongong. “Competing with my daughters has made this journey incredibly special,” Power stated. “We get to bond over something meaningful while navigating the highs and lows together.”
Power’s journey back into athletics began as a fitness endeavor but quickly transformed into a competitive passion. “I was encouraged by my coaches to pursue running more seriously,” she explained. “I never expected to achieve such success.”
The Athletics Wollongong athlete’s recent accolades follow a successful performance at the 2025 Australian Masters Athletics Championships in Adelaide, where she won four gold, two silver, and a bronze. Power also performed well at the 2024 World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, where she earned a silver and bronze medal.
Power faces challenges as a working mother balancing multiple jobs while training. “It’s tough to juggle everything, but training with my daughters makes it worthwhile,” she noted. “It allows us to support each other and instills values of hard work and resilience.” Her commitment to the sport has led her to inspire not just her daughters, but also many young athletes she mentors.
As she prepares for more competitions, Power looks ahead to future championships, including the upcoming events where she hopes to continue her winning streak. “To represent Australia on an international stage has been a dream,” she expressed. “I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
With her recent accomplishments, Rebekah Power is not just a champion sprinter; she is a role model for athletes everywhere, proving that dedication and familial support can lead to extraordinary achievements.
