seven-arrested-in-urgent-multi-million-dollar-drug-bust

UPDATE: Authorities have arrested seven people in a major drug bust that has sent shockwaves through the community. The operation, led by the Clandestine Laboratory Squad, uncovered a multi-million dollar drug syndicate with ties to illicit drug manufacturing and trafficking.

In a dramatic turn of events, police extradited the alleged ringleader, a 55-year-old man from the Northern Territory, to Melbourne on November 4, 2024. He was arrested earlier that week on November 2 and has been charged with trafficking a large commercial quantity of MDMA and conspiracy to traffic a large commercial quantity of methylamphetamine. Authorities report he fled the jurisdiction in August after becoming aware of the ongoing investigation.

The three-year investigation has been a significant effort, resulting in the execution of approximately 15 search warrants and the dismantling of three large-scale clandestine laboratories, including one in Monegetta. Police have seized drugs worth millions, including commercial quantities of methylamphetamine and cocaine, as well as precursor chemicals.

Earlier this month, a shipment flagged by the Australian Border Force in November 2022 was reportedly disguised as perfume-making chemicals. This operation has led to a substantial crackdown on drug trafficking routes and organized crime networks across the country.

Among those arrested is a 27-year-old Monegeetta man, taken into custody on October 17, 2024, for various charges, including possessing articles to manufacture drugs and handling stolen goods. Additionally, a 37-year-old Maribyrnong man was arrested in June for possessing a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine.

The investigation has also revealed a major car rebirthing ring, with police locating 13 stolen Holden vehicles valued at over $1 million. These developments highlight the extensive reach of the syndicate, affecting communities far beyond the immediate area.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant as they continue to investigate this significant network of drug trafficking and organized crime. The police have confirmed that more arrests may follow as they gather further evidence.
