UPDATE: A significant storm system is currently sweeping across Australia, unleashing widespread showers and damaging winds. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe storm warnings for multiple regions as the intense 72-hour weather event escalates, particularly threatening the east coast this afternoon.

As of November 4, 2023, the storm follows a chaotic day on Friday, where northern New South Wales and South East Queensland experienced destructive weather. Reports indicate hailstones measuring up to 4cm, localized flash flooding, and fallen trees have already caused chaos in affected areas. Power outages impacted over 10,000 properties in regions including Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, and Moreton Bay, with restoration efforts ongoing.

Meteorologists predict that the stormy conditions will persist throughout the weekend, with the worst impacts expected in South East Queensland and northern NSW. “Damaging winds and large hail are the primary threats, alongside locally heavy rainfall,” warned senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury. The Bureau also cautions that these hazardous temperatures, which could rise two to six degrees above the November average, will elevate fire danger warnings across inland Queensland and New South Wales.

The severe weather is not limited to the eastern states; it is expected to extend across much of the country, impacting the Tropical North, inland parts of Western Australia, and large swaths of the Northern Territory. “Severe storms may also bring damaging winds and heavy rain to parts of Western Australia’s interior and southern Northern Territory,” Bradbury added.

Residents in Sydney can expect a cloudy day with storms and showers likely in the afternoon, reaching a maximum temperature of 27°C. In Brisbane, conditions will be stormy, with thunderstorms forecast for the evening and a high of 26°C. Meanwhile, Canberra is set for a cooler start but will also see showers and storms, peaking at 27°C.

Further south, Melbourne may experience overcast skies and a chance of morning showers, with a maximum of 21°C. Adelaide is expected to remain mostly unaffected, with a potential evening shower after reaching 23°C. Hobart will be cooler and windy, with no rain expected and a high of 19°C. In contrast, Perth is enjoying sunny skies with no storm threats, reaching a comfortable 25°C. Darwin will be warmer, experiencing showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures soaring to 32°C.

As this severe weather event continues to develop, residents are advised to stay tuned to local reports and heed official warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology. The situation remains fluid, and the potential for significant weather impacts across Australia is high. Share this urgent update to keep your community informed and safe.
