URGENT UPDATE: A stolen firefighting trailer worth $10,000 has been discovered abandoned in rugged bushland near Beechworth just a day after it was reported missing from Albury. The red single-axle trailer, utilized by trained community members for fire assistance, was stolen from Doctors Point in East Albury on September 17, 2023.

Authorities recovered the trailer on September 18, near the intersection of Long Range Track and Woolshed Road, between Beechworth and Eldorado. In addition to the trailer, officers also located a 1990 model Honda quad bike, stolen in NSW in 1998, and a second trailer, all hidden down an embankment and out of public view.

Fire and Rescue NSW officials are currently assessing the damage to the trailer and determining if any essential equipment was stolen.

“It’s a critical piece of public safety equipment… It’s very disappointing that that capacity has been taken,”

said Superintendent Stewart Alexander. He emphasized the importance of the trailer, especially with warmer weather approaching, which increases fire risk in the region.

Superintendent Alexander noted that while thefts of this nature are rare, they can significantly impact community safety. “Fortunately they’re usually very secure,” he added, urging anyone with information about the theft to come forward. Citizens can contact police at (03) 5728 1032 or 1800 333 000.

As the investigation continues, the public is reminded of the importance of community vigilance. The stolen firefighting trailer is vital for local residents, particularly as fire season approaches. Fire and Rescue NSW is working diligently to restore its operational status and ensure community safety remains a top priority.
