sunbury-roar-completes-dramatic-comeback-to-beat-cyms-159

UPDATE: In a thrilling finish, the Sunbury Roar pulled off an astounding comeback to defeat Williamstown CYMS by just two runs in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association Steve McNamara Shield on Saturday. After struggling on day one, the Roar’s players rallied to secure a dramatic victory that will resonate throughout their season.

The match took a tense turn when the CYMS resumed at 4-89, chasing a modest total of 161. However, the McGann duo, Jason and Jack, shone brightly, capturing the last six wickets and finishing with a collective total of nine wickets, as they bowled the CYMS out for 159 in a nerve-wracking climax.

“It was awesome,” exclaimed Roar coach Leo Italiano. “I’m so happy for the boys. We started pre-season back in July, which was insanely early. It’s only one win, but it’s how we won it that matters.”

The spotlight was on Jack Narraway, who played a crucial role in day one, scoring 55 not out despite previous struggles. On Saturday, it was the McGann pair who led the charge. “Unbelievable performance by Jack McGann,” said Italiano. “He took 4-21 off 18 overs, showing what we always knew he could do. Hopefully, the switch has flicked now.”

Jason McGann capped off his performance with 5-46, while Narraway’s six catches behind the stumps proved invaluable. Tension mounted as the CYMS edged closer to victory with only one wicket remaining. “I was watching on Frogbox and scoring,” said Italiano, reflecting on the tense moments. “When we took that last wicket, I let out a Roar, and everyone looked at me—then they realized we had won.”

The victory is expected to boost the Roar’s confidence significantly as they gear up for their next match against Newport-Digman this Saturday. The Bulls are coming off a tie against Tullamarine and will be eager for a win.

In other news, Sunbury’s second XI match against the CYMS was washed out at Clarke Oval. Rain interrupted play with Sunbury at 4-160, leaving Kamran Khan stranded on 49.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the Roar to see if they can maintain this momentum and build on their hard-fought victory. Stay tuned for further updates as the action unfolds!
