
URGENT UPDATE: Three individuals are facing multiple charges following a shocking crime spree involving a stolen $150,000 excavator and an ATM on the South Coast. Authorities confirmed the arrests after a swift investigation that began on September 1.
On Monday, September 1, Rural Crime investigators launched inquiries into the theft of a Caterpillar-brand front-end loader and grapple hitch from a quarry located on the Federal Highway in Sutton. Following extensive investigations, detectives executed a search warrant at a property on Dicks Creek Road, Yass River, on Wednesday, September 3. Police recovered the excavator, grapple, hitch attachments, and additional items, including ammunition and a gel blaster.
The investigation took a dramatic turn on September 29 when detectives from the South Coast Police District initiated a separate inquiry into the alleged theft of an ATM from a business on Beach Road, Batemans Bay. Around 6 AM, police approached two men, ages 27 and 36, on Princes Highway, Cullendulla. The younger suspect fled, prompting an extensive foot pursuit that culminated in his arrest on Myamba Parade, Surfside.
Both men were taken into custody at the Batemans Bay Police Station. Meanwhile, a 28-year-old woman suspected of aiding the younger man was apprehended on Wallarah Street and was also brought to the police station. Authorities seized a staggering $59,000 in cash during searches of the suspects.
The 36-year-old man faces an astonishing 15 charges, including those related to the break-in at the Sutton quarry. He was denied bail and is set to appear before the Bail Division on October 1, with a subsequent appearance at Batemans Bay Local Court scheduled for December 1. The 27-year-old man has been charged with eight offences and will also appear in court on November 24. The woman faces two charges and has been granted conditional bail to appear on October 20.
