URGENT UPDATE: Two young men tragically lost their lives following a horrific car crash and fire in Newcastle late Saturday night. The incident occurred around 11:15 PM on Maitland Road, Mayfield East, when a Toyota Corolla veered off the road, striking a power pole and igniting upon impact.

Emergency services responded quickly, with firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW arriving on the scene to find a chaotic situation. Two passengers, a 24-year-old driver and a 19-year-old back seat passenger, were rescued from the wreckage by brave passers-by. Unfortunately, the remaining two passengers were trapped inside as flames engulfed the vehicle.

Firefighters successfully extricated the two trapped individuals, who were subsequently rushed to John Hunter Hospital suffering from critical burns. Despite medical efforts, both men, believed to be in their 20s, have now succumbed to their injuries, according to police reports.

Authorities confirm that all four men involved in the crash are believed to be students in Australia. The police are now collaborating with officials from the High Commission of Bangladesh to provide support and investigate the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident.

The driver remains hospitalized under guard, receiving treatment for minor injuries. The second man who was rescued is also being treated at the hospital.
