urgent-2-4m-funding-application-deadline-extended-for-indian-centre

UPDATE: The deadline for the expression of interest (EOI) in the $2.4 million funding for the Indian Community Centre in Melbourne has been extended! Submissions are now due by 3:00 PM on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, offering critical additional time for organizations to prepare their applications.

This extension is crucial for Indian community organizations seeking financial support to develop a culturally-specific community centre in Melbourne’s western suburbs. The funding will significantly cover infrastructure costs, fostering a space for cultural connection and celebration.

Alongside the new deadline, the Victorian Government has expanded the eligible local government areas. Now, applications are welcomed from not just Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, and Wyndham but also from Greater Geelong, Hume, Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Merri-bek, Moonee Valley, and Moorabool. This broadened scope means more communities can participate in this vital initiative.

In a parallel effort, the government has announced a similar funding opportunity of $2.4 million for community organizations in Melbourne’s south-east, specifically for projects in Central Dandenong. This funding can be utilized for leasing or purchasing property to establish a community centre as part of the Revitalising Central Dandenong precinct.

The urgency of this funding cannot be overstated. These new spaces will enable the growing Indian communities to connect, build a sense of belonging, and celebrate their rich cultural heritage.

CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS: Eligible organizations must be not-for-profit and demonstrate financial viability by matching government funding dollar for dollar. For instance, to receive $2.4 million, the organization must have its own $2.4 million secured. Additionally, if the total project cost exceeds $4.8 million, applicants must show they can cover the extra funds necessary to complete the project.

The Victorian Government is steadfast in its commitment to supporting the thriving Indian communities, ensuring they have inclusive spaces to gather. It is important to note that the EOI process is competitive, seeking to identify projects ready to commence within a year.

Organizations are encouraged to act swiftly as the new deadline approaches. For more information on eligible locations and requirements, visit the official site at Community Centre Expressions of Interest | vic.gov.au.

With this extension, the window of opportunity for community engagement and cultural development is wide open. Don’t miss the chance to make a significant impact in your community!
