BREAKING: Major sporting events are coming to Bendigo, with construction crews already moving in to prepare for four highly anticipated basketball showdowns. The Victorian Government has just announced funding details for these events, set to attract thousands of visitors and boost the local economy.
January 7 marks the return of Bendigo-raised basketball star Dash Daniels, who will play for the two-time NBL Champions, Melbourne United, in a thrilling match against the Cairns Taipans. Just two weeks later, on January 21, Melbourne United will face the Brisbane Bullets in another exciting game. These matches are part of a broader initiative that includes a community basketball development program aimed at enhancing local talent.
The upgrades to Bendigo’s sports infrastructure are equally significant. Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards heralded the developments as a massive win for the local basketball community, stating they will not only provide top-tier sporting events but also improve facilities. The upgrades include the construction of two new basketball courts and refurbishments to two existing courts, accompanied by new lighting on 12 outdoor netball courts.
Additionally, crews are moving into the local sports precinct to construct a new multipurpose pavilion, alongside improvements to the grass arena, upgraded lighting, entrances, and fencing. These enhancements are part of the government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, which encompasses 16 projects aimed at revitalizing sporting facilities across regional Victoria.
Premier Jacinta Allan emphasized the importance of these developments, stating, “These upgrades will support local jobs, grow community sport, and bring more major events to Bendigo.” This initiative not only promises to elevate the standard of local sports but also aims to generate significant economic benefits as visitors flock to the area, filling hotels, restaurants, and cafes.
As construction progresses and the event dates approach, local residents and basketball fans can look forward to a vibrant season that promises to uplift the community and enhance Bendigo’s reputation as a sporting hub. Stay tuned for more updates as the excitement builds!
