urgent-call-for-25-funding-boost-for-iramoo-community-centre

UPDATE: The Iramoo Community Centre is urgently calling for a 25% increase in funding from the State Government of Victoria. This demand is part of the new 2026 Neighbourhood Houses Budget and Election Campaign aimed at addressing escalating operational costs critical to community support services.

Just announced by centre manager Renae Paul, the funding boost is essential as costs for goods and services continue to surge. “Iramoo Community Centre, like many neighbourhood houses in Victoria, relies on neighbourhood house funding to cover staff wages, operational costs, and support community programs,” Paul stated.

As the cost-of-living increases put pressure on families and individuals, the demand for services at Iramoo is reaching unprecedented levels. “Funding has not kept up with the real cost of delivering inclusive, responsive, and high-quality community support,” Paul emphasized.

With an increase in funding, Iramoo plans to expand existing programs and introduce new initiatives tailored to the community’s shifting needs. “This would include more affordable programs, increased support for people experiencing isolation or financial stress, and enhanced wellbeing and mental health-focused programs,” Paul explained.

The centre, located in Wyndham Vale, aims to enhance opportunities for learning, volunteering, and social connection. Paul stressed, “A funding boost would ensure our services remain accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances.”

The urgent need for stable, long-term funding outlines the necessity for resources that can keep pace with rising wages, utilities, and program delivery costs. “Reliable funding would allow us to plan long-term and respond quickly to emerging needs,” Paul added.

The Iramoo Community Centre’s mission goes beyond mere service provision; it represents a critical investment in the health and connectivity of local communities. “When people feel supported, included, and empowered, the whole community benefits,” Paul stated passionately.

The centre is appealing to the state government to recognize the pressing needs of a rapidly growing community with diverse requirements. As they await a response, the call for action is clear: without adequate funding, vital community services may falter, impacting those who rely on them most.

The State Government of Victoria has yet to respond to the urgent request for comment. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the Iramoo Community Centre pushes for immediate action to secure the necessary funding for its essential programs.
