UPDATE: A 29-year-old man is recovering after a serious car accident while driving on the Midwestern Highway towards Goolgowi. The incident, which occurred approximately 85 kilometres from Hay, has raised concerns about road safety in the region.

New reports confirm that the driver, operating a gold Holden Viva, lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road. After going down a dirt embankment, he managed to regain control about 250 metres later, but the car flipped upon returning to the highway, causing a dramatic roll. Witnesses reported a cloud of dust as the vehicle overturned.

An oncoming driver noticed the chaos and rushed to assist. Witnesses saw the man crawling out of the wreckage, visibly shaken but alive. Emergency services were called immediately to the scene after the driver was found attempting to stand.

According to police, when questioned about the crash, the driver allegedly admitted to falling asleep at the wheel. Fortunately, he was breath tested and returned a negative result for alcohol, indicating no impairment due to drinking.

However, officers discovered that the vehicle was both unregistered and that the driver was unlicensed. As a result, he received multiple infringements, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety and regulations.

In a related note, police are issuing a warning to the public regarding an alarming rise in thefts from unlocked vehicles, particularly in the Darlington Point area. Authorities stress the importance of securing vehicles and removing valuables to prevent theft.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with driving fatigue and the need for vigilance, both on the road and in securing personal property.
